Fix

Alt text edits no longer show false failures

Alt text containing quotes, apostrophes, or extra spaces is now recognized as saved, instead of being reported as a failed or uncertain result.

Update recap for 2026-10-02.

Etsy stores image alt text in a slightly different form from what you type. Straight quotes, apostrophes, and the < and > characters are saved in an encoded form (an apostrophe becomes ', for example), and spaces or line breaks at the start and end are removed.

Everlyst used to compare alt text character for character after saving. When your text contained any of those characters, the saved version didn’t look identical. Everlyst then reported a successful edit as failed or uncertain, and sometimes tried to save it again.

Everlyst now compares alt text the way Etsy stores it, so these edits are reported as saved. Re-applying alt text that’s already in place no longer sends anything to Etsy. In the Images & Media editor and Make Listing, existing alt text shows the characters you typed rather than Etsy’s encoded form.

This fix applies to single-image edits, bulk alt-text templates, and the photo filmstrip. Curly quotes, accents, dashes, and emoji were never affected. Read the listing photos guide for tips on writing useful alt text.
